LT-SOOT RELEASE - Low Temperature Soot Remover
Description
LT SOOT RELEASE low temperature soot remover is a unique, catalytic powder designed to effectively reduce combustion deposits and to maintain clean heat transfer surfaces in exhaust boilers. Soot deposits in the exhaust system waste energy, cause corrosion, increase stack fire potential and can lead to costly repairs. The low activation temperature 200° C (392° F) of LT SOOT RELEASE soot remover makes it ideal for today's efficient energy recovery systems in motorships. LT SOOT RELEASE soot remover works by reducing the ignition temperature of the organic deposits of incomplete combustion, which bind the adherent ash deposits. In doing so, deposits become friable losing their adherent properties, and are easily removed and eliminated during normal sootblowingoperations.

Application and Use
Although designed specifically for use in diesel exhaust gas economizers, LT SOOT RELEASE low temperature soot remover can be used in any fireside application such as: • Firetube boilers • Donkey boilers • Water-tube boilers/H.P. and L.P. • Auxiliary boilers • Main boilers The recommended dosage rate is 1 kg/day for every 400-500 m2 of surface area to be treated. However, variations in engine load, boiler design, heating surface configurations and the amount of deposits may alter this dosage rate. For vessels with exhaust gas temperatures below 250° C (482° F), it is recommended that the dosage rate be increased 1.5 kg/ day for every 400-500 m2 of surface area. LT SOOT RELEASE soot remover is usually slug dosed to the exhaust trunk using the LT SOOT RELEASE dosing unit.
A. Exhaust Gas Economizer System
1. General
a. For this system, LT SOOT RELEASE soot remover is injected just prior to the exhaust gas economizer inlet beyond the bypass damper (if one is fitted). However, dosing can take place anywhere in the system depending on where fouling is a problem. b. In instances where the air stream is too fast to develop sufficient contact time, it may be necessary to partially bypass the economizer or slow the engine to half speed or less during dosing in order to achieve maximum product performance.
2. Dosing Procedure (See Figure A)
It is recommended that safety goggles, rubber gloves, and dust mask be worn when dosing and handling the product.
a. Be sure all valves ( , , and ) and the vent cock on the dosing unit are closed.
b. Open valve and then valve to ensure that any condensed water vapor or powder from previous dosing are removed.
c. Close valve then .
d. Open vent to ensure atmospheric pressure within dosing pot.
e. Remove cap and add LT SOOT RELEASETM soot remover to the dosing pot. Secure the cap.
Close vent cock .
f. Open the valves in the sequence in which they are numbered ( , , and ).
g. Allow 3-5 minutes for the product to be injected into the exhaust uptake.
h. Close the valves in the opposite sequence to which they were opened ( , , and ).
i. Open vent cock on cap to make sure there is no pressure in the pot.
j. Remove the cap and check to make certain all the LT SOOT RELEASE soot remover has been dosed and the pot is empty.
k. If any product remains in the dosing pot, replace the cap and repeat steps (f) through (j).
l. Replace the cap and be sure all valves are closed and the vent cock is left open. m.After 20 minutes, begin soot blowing operations to remove loosened exhaust system residues.
