DESCALE-IT - Liquid Acid Descaler
Description
DESCALE-IT descaler is a liquid scale remover for cleaning heat exchange surfaces of deposits that impair efficiency. The use of DESCALE-IT descaler eliminates costly downtime and expensive manual descaling. The inhibitor contained in DESCALE-IT descaler prevents serious attack of the base metal after solution of heat exchanger deposits is complete. DESCALE-IT descaler is recommended for descaling boilers, evaporators, condensers, heaters and coolers.

Application and Use
For general descaling of heat exchanger units, boilers, evaporators, etc., add 200 liters of DESCALE-IT liquid acid descaler per ton of cleaning capacity. The solution should be heated to 54° C (130° F) for best results. Circulate the solution through the heat exchanger by use of a pump, or agitate the solution by bubbling steam or air through the exchanger. If steam is used for agitation, the steam should be discontinued when the temperature of the solution reaches 71° C (160° F). Higher temperatures reduce the effectiveness of the inhibitor. The system should be ventilated to the atmosphere at all times during cleaning.
Depending on the quantity and nature of deposits, most types of scale will be removed in 4-12 hours. When unusually heavy deposits are encountered, a sample of scale should be immersed in the recommended solution strength to determine the approximate time necessary for removal. When the cleaning operation is completed, the system should be drained and flushed thoroughly with fresh water. A 1% solution of GC concentrated alkaline liquid should then be circulated to neutralize metal surfaces. The Drew air diaphragm pump system is recommended for cleaning and rinsing operations.
Important Information and Precautions
• Do not allow acid solution to remain in equipment for more than 24 hours.
• As with all acid cleaning, be sure to remove zinc plates and rods or other sacrificial anodes before cleaning.
• The acid cleaning process may generate flammable/hazardous gas, including hydrogen. Do not perform hot work when acid is in circulation.
• Always make sure that equipment has sufficient ventilation to prevent the accumulation of gases.
• Do not use DESCALE-IT liquid acid descaler for removing deposits on equipment made of stainless steel.
• For boiler cleaning:
• Do not acid clean a boiler with DESCALE-IT liquid acid descaler when deposits contain significant amounts of copper or a high percentage of silica.
• Never fire a boiler containing an acid solution.
• Vent to the outside.
NOTE: Care should be taken to follow local disposal regulations with all waste water.
Equipment Required
Proper planning is essential when acid cleaning with DESCALE-IT liquid acid descaler. The following items are required:
1 . The ideal equipment for this cleaning is the Drew air diaphragm pump system
2. Vent pipe to carry any gases released during the cleaning to the outside.
3. Protective clothing for personnel performing the acid cleaning. This includes goggles or splash shield, rubber gloves and a rubber apron.
