MUD CONDITIONER - Ballast Tank Water Treatment
Description
MUD CONDITIONER ballast tank water treatment is a high molecular weight polymer-containing product. It is specifically designed and tested to condition mud and silt-bearing ballast water preventing dense accumulations in ballast tanks. Mud and silt buildup in ballast tanks amounts to unwanted weight, depriving you of valuable cargo capacity. Heavy mud and silt deposits can also contribute to corrosion and can harbor organisms that can become hostile agents when introduced to the waters of foreign ports. When mixed with ballast water during ballasting operations, MUD CONDITIONER treatment reacts with mud and silt to form large non-adhering particles. These large particles then settle quickly to the bottom of the tank but are loosely dispersed, so they can be easily discharged with the ballast water during deballasting. MUD CONDITIONER treatment also can be used to aid in removing existing mud accumulations in ballast tanks. It minimizes the expense and time required to muck out ballast tanks prior to the application of MAGNAKOTE® and MAGNAKOTE PLUS rust preventative products. A study conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard regarding indigenous species discusses the benefits of MUD CONDITIONERtreatment to remove sediment.

Application and Use
Normal Clean Out
The recommended treatment dosage of MUD CONDITIONER treatment is 20-30 liters per 1,000 tons of ballast water or 5-8 U.S. gallons per 1,000 tons of ballast. The treatment is repeated each time tanks are ballasted. For the most optimal results, MUD CONDITIONER treatment should be dosed during the course of ballasting operations. This will ensure that the product is properly dispersed throughout the ballast water. Contact your local Drew representative to discuss the dosing equipment available from Drew Marine.
Clean Out of Heavy Accumulations
Dose 100-200 liters per 1,000 tons or 25-50 U.S. gallons per 1,000 tons of ballast water for fast clean out of heavy mud and silt accumulations. Add enough water to maintain 15-30 cm (6-12 inch) level in the tank. Good agitation is required to ensure that MUD CONDITIONER treatment is properly dispersed for maximum effectiveness. Fire hoses can be used to help the product penetrate the mud accumulation. Leave the treatment in the tank for 3-5 hours, then strip completely dry. This treatment may have to be repeated up to 5-8 times depending upon the severity and density of the mud accumulation.
